Archuleta, Bowers and Stoots all win silver medals at 49er Classic on Friday
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 15, 2024) – Three Buccaneers posted podium finishes on Friday at the 49er Classic from the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.
In its first outdoor meet of the season, ETSU saw
Ansley Archuleta (steeplechase),
Jason Bowers (1500m) and
Myles Stoots (steeplechase) all earn silver medals in their respective events.
The women took two of the top five spots in the steeplechase with Archuleta placing second (11:24.94) and
Camryn Johnson coming in fifth (11:37.16). This was the first time the Buccaneer duo competed in the event as collegiate athletes.
On the men's side, Stoots finished second with a time of 9:12.48. Stoots bagged his sixth podium finish in the event and the second time he earned silver at this meet as he also accomplished the feat in 2022.
The Bucs also captured silver in the men's 1500m thanks to Bowers – who was making his ETSU outdoor track & field debut – clocking in at 3:46.82.
Staying on the track,
Rebekah Howard – who was making her outdoor debut in the 5000m – posted a fifth-place performance with a time of 17:16.40. In the women's 5000m open section,
Sophie Beach (18:26.02) and
Karli Townsell (18:32.68) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the field, the Blue & Gold took two of the top 10 spots in the women's long jump.
Tya Blake earned a fifth place showing with a personal best leap of 5.66m, while
Anaya Young finished ninth with another personal best mark of 5.25m.
In the women's hammer throw,
Anna Moore set a new PR with a mark of 45.53m.
Frania Romero-Barba, making her collegiate debut, was fourth in the Group B pole vault with a mark of 3.15m.
Ethan Fulford set a new personal best in the javelin with a distance of 41.92m.
To start the day,
Brianna Baker placed eighth in her first collegiate outdoor heptathlon with 4151 points, marking the sixth-highest total in program history.
Saturday marks the final day of competition in Charlotte with men's shot put getting things started at 10 a.m., while the track events begin at 12 p.m.
