JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 24, 2024) – Riding a three-match winning streak, the ETSU women's tennis team will be back in action on Sunday when it hosts Western Carolina. First serve between the Buccaneers and Catamounts is set for 2 p.m.
ETSU has been playing well recently with victories over UNC Greensboro (7-0), Lipscomb (4-2) and Appalachian State (6-1). Overall, the Bucs are 4-4 this season and they are 4-1 in their last five contests. A player to watch for the Bucs will be
Daniela Rivera. Rivera was named the SoCon Player of the Week on Tuesday. Rivera joins fellow Bucs
Fernanda Carvajal and
Ralitsa Alexandrova as ETSU players that have earned that honor this season.
Western Carolina will bring an 8-4 record with it to Johnson City on Sunday. WCU has dropped its last three matches entering Sunday's match with setbacks against Charlotte, Boston, and Kennesaw State. The Catamounts have earned victories against Emmanuel, Western Kentucky, Tusculum, Milligan, Davidson, Young Harris, Queens and Gardner-Webb this season.
ETSU and Western Carolina have met over 40 times since the first meeting back in the 1970s. The Bucs have won the last 14 matches between these two programs with WCU's last win coming in 2006 in Cullowhee.
