NORMAN, Okla. (Aug. 9, 2023) – ETSU's Algot Kleen (Fiskebackskil, Sweden) and Remi Chartier (Montreal, Canada) were named 2022-23 All-American Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of American as the organization announced its award winners on Wednesday.
Overall, 548 NCAA Division I athletes from 194 schools earned 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholar honors.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Kleen, who concluded his second season with the Blue & Gold in 2022-23, has generated a 3.49 cumulative GPA while majoring in Sport Management. The SoCon Honor Roll member earned all-conference honors this past spring as he played in 12 tournaments and finished with a 71.53 scoring average. Kleen won his first collegiate tournament in the spring opener at the Puerto Rico Classic where he shot a 13-under-par 203 and was later named SoCon Player of the Month in February. Overall, Kleen had four top-10 finishes and also led the Bucs at the NCAA Regional in Las Vegas where he finished tied for ninth at 13-under-par 203. Kleen fired an 8-under 64 in round two of the regional, marking the lowest round of his collegiate career.
Chartier, a media and communication major, has a 3.38 cumulative grade point average. The Montreal, Canada native played in 10 tournaments for the Bucs last season, posting a 72.43 scoring average in 30 total rounds. For the season, Chartier recorded five rounds in the 60s, including 13 rounds of par or better. Chartier's low round of the season was a 69, which he posted five times on the year, while his top finish came at the Wake Forest Invitational where he tied for 14th at Pinehurst No. 2.
