JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 5, 2026) – The East Tennessee State University men's golf team has been recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) with Presidents Special Recognition as part of the organization's 2025-26 PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Awards.

The Buccaneers were one of 88 NCAA Division I programs to receive Presidents Special Recognition after posting a 3.513 cumulative team grade-point average during the 2025-26 academic year. The distinction is awarded to programs that finish with a team GPA of 3.5 or higher.

ETSU was one of a GCAA-record 331 collegiate programs across six divisions to earn a PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award, recognizing the program's commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the course.

The honor caps another outstanding academic year for the Buccaneers. Earlier this week, Gavin Tiernan was named a 2025-26 NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar, recognizing his individual achievements in both academics and athletics.

The GCAA's PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Awards annually recognize collegiate golf programs for outstanding academic achievement. In addition to Academic National Champions in each division, the organization awards Presidents Special Recognition to teams that achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
