RADFORD, Va. (Sept. 30, 2026) – The ETSU men's soccer team played Radford to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday afternoon at Cupp Stadium in Radford.
The Buccaneers (5-4-2) started piling up chances in the fifth minute.
Joe Gonzalez came streaking into the box for a clean header off an
Elliot Edwards corner, but the Highlanders (3-6-1) goalkeeper Ben Miller parried the shot away.
Frank Manrod headed an Edwards free kick on frame in the ninth, but Miller read it well and made a routine save. Gonzalez had another header stopped by an off-balance Miller reaching behind his head with his left arm to paw the ball away from the line in the 13th, and put one on frame himself from 40 yards that was caught by Miller after going untouched through to the keeper.
The best chance of the afternoon belonged to the Highlanders, and it arrived in the final 45 seconds. A long pass picked out Noel Zimbeva running behind a staggered ETSU back line that played him onside for a partial breakaway, but Zimbeva's right-footed shot was stopped by a kick save from freshman keeper
Elijah Keener. A subsequent effort by Amir Simpson was misfired over the crossbar, sealing the draw.
Both teams registered 12 shots with ETSU owning a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Keener made five saves to earn a shutout in his first collegiate start. Gonzalez led ETSU with three shots, all on goal.
The Bucs return home Saturday to face Charlotte. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. at Summers-Taylor Stadium ahead of the football game at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
