JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 3, 2026) - The ETSU men's soccer team fell 4-2 to the No. 24 Charlotte 49ers on Saturday morning at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
Elliot Edwards scored his first collegiate brace in the loss.
The 49ers (5-1-2) put pressure on the Buccaneers (5-5-2) from the opening whistle. They nearly scored in the 9th minute, but
Hugo Martinez cleared a shot off the line that was destined for the side netting.
Gavin Dick had ETSU's best chance in the 29th minute when he rolled off the outside shoulder of a Charlotte defender with a clean look at goal but slid the shot wide of the left post.
In the 32nd minute, Xavier Holloway got the 49ers into a forward area with a numbers advantage and feathered a pass to Wiktor Pucilowski, who got into the box on the right side and put a right-footed shot inside the near post to put the visitors ahead.
In the 56th, Charlotte got beyond ETSU's reach when a lobbed pass took a deflection at the top of the box and landed in the path of Larry Noel, who fired a rocket into the upper 90 on the left side of the goal. Natsuki Ogata added another in the 75th, and Michael Raggett scored in the 78th.
Elliot Edwards scored on a pair of penalty kicks in the 83rd and 87th to soften what remained a convincing Charlotte win.
The 49ers outshot the Bucs 21-9 with a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal and an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks, underscoring their extensive possession throughout the morning.
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday against Gardner-Webb. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
