BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - East Tennessee State University's volleyball team wrapped up the nonconference slate with a 3-0 loss at Western Kentucky on Saturday, at E.A. Diddle Arena.
East Tennessee State (2-9) took a 6-5 lead; however, Western Kentucky (6-5) responded with a 10-1 run to take a 15-7 lead. The Buccaneers would get as close as 19-12 with a kill by Elizabeth Aylward, but the Hilltoppers took six of the set's final seven points to take the 25-13 first set.
The two teams went back and forth to open the second set, as a Hilltopper error tied the set at 6. A 5-0 run by WKU allowed them to lead 17-10, as the Bucs responded with a 6-0 run to get within one at 20-19 with an ace by Kennedy Boatman. Kills and an ace by WKU allowed the Hilltoppers to take the third set, 25-21.
The Buccaneers led 5-1 to open the third frame with kills by Gianna Blair and Aylward and Hilltopper errors. WKU came back to tie the set at 13, sparking a 9-2 run to lead 22-15. The Bucs would get as close as 23-18, but consecutive kills by Kaira Knox would end the set at 25-18 for the 3-0 match win.
