SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Sept. 19, 2026) - The ETSU men's soccer team scored late to earn a 1-1 draw at Wofford on Saturday in their SoCon opener.
Jaime Carrillo scored in the 86th minute for the Buccaneers (3-4-1), finding the net in his third consecutive game, the fourth time in five games, and extending a five-game point streak.
The Terriers (5-1-2) got on the board via penalty kick in the 59th minute. After
George Chunuwe was whistled for contact with Wofford's Sam Case inside the box, Fabian Menendez was tasked with the spot kick and went low and left with pace to put Wofford ahead.
ETSU got its answer late. Carrillo linked up with
Lewis Henry 30 yards from goal to start the run. Henry found
Shewit Worton in traffic just inside the box, and Worton executed a give-and-go that gave Henry a clean look at a tight angle from the left side. Pepe Hinterschuster stopped Henry's effort, but the rebound hopped directly into the path of Carrillo who raised his left boot for a tap-in to score his fifth goal of the season. Carrillo's goal was the ninth of his ETSU career, moving him one goal shy of Alesi Osorio for 10th on the career goals list.
ETSU outshot Wofford 17-12 and won shots on goal 7-4. Carrillo led the Bucs with four shot attempts, and Carrillo, Henry, and
Joe Gonzalez had two shots on goal each. Noé Delmotte made three saves in the draw.
The Bucs return home Tuesday to host Presbyterian. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Admission is free.
