JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2026) - The goals start coming, and they don't stop coming. So it went for Jaime Carrillo and ETSU on Tuesday night.
The ETSU winger recorded the third hat trick in ETSU men's soccer history and just the second hat trick by a men's player at Summers-Taylor Stadium to power a 6-2 win over Presbyterian, joining Fletcher Ekern at UNCG in 2016 and Tarik Pannholzer versus VMI in 2021. Elliot Edwards, Joe Gonzalez, and Gavin Dick all found the net as well as all the big guns fired for the Buccaneers (4-4-1).
The home side had the Blue Hose (0-8-0) on the back foot from the opening kickoff, but Presbyterian parked the bus with as many defending options as possible in the starting lineup. ETSU finally broke through in the 18th minute, when Edwards put Ulysses Hendriks in space just inside the box. Hendriks rifled a shot that popped out of the hands of Presbyterian keeper Saed Anabtawi and hung up in the air for Edwards to head home for his third goal of the year. Hendriks was awarded his second career assist, both of which have come in the last four games.
The Bucs doubled their lead in the 27th when Liam Gummer, making his first collegiate start at left back, whipped in a cross from the left edge of the box that found a backpedaling Shewit Worton for a header at goal. Worton's effort hit the post, but Gonzalez was in the neighborhood for a tap-in on the rebound to collect his third goal of the season.
Carrillo got his night going in the 39th minute. Max Allen floated a cross in from the right side for a glancing header for Edwards that was stopped by Anabtawi, but the rebound fell to Carrillo on the left edge of the six-yard box. He crossed over a Presbyterian defender and smashed the ball home on his right foot to tie Alesi Osorio for 10th on the ETSU career goal scoring list.
He added to his night in the 58th thanks to some great work by Micah Kwende and Gavin Dick. Kwende threaded a long through ball into space behind the back line for Dick to run onto. The Scottish freshman reeled the ball in on the end line and fed it across the goal mouth for a running Carrillo to pounce on it just ahead of the defender moving stride-for-stride with him from midfield.
His hat trick arrived on a breakaway he started himself just shy of the hour mark. When a Blue Hose free kick was blocked at the top of the ETSU 18-yard box, Carrillo linked up with Worton, who fired an inch-perfect pass through the back line to catch Dick running free behind the defense. Carrillo turned on the jets and joined Dick for a two-on-one against backup goalkeeper Murray Beatty, and the freshman drew the keeper out and laid the ball off to his captain to complete a piece of history. Dick's good karma came back to him 17 minutes later when he scored with ease on a clean breakaway.
Carrillo is now the 10th-leading goalscorer in ETSU history, one goal shy of tying Cameron Woodfin on the all-time list. His seven goals to date in 2026 mark the 13th time a player has scored seven or more goals in a season in ETSU colors. Carrillo needs four goals in the remaining nine matches to tie the single season record of 11, set by David Geno in 2011 and equaled by Joao Ramalho in 2014 and Kieran Richards in 2022.
The Bucs outshot the Blue Hose 19-9 with a 13-6 advantage in shots on goal. Sam McGee kept a clean sheet in 45 minutes in his first collegiate start, making one save, while Elijah Keener made three saves in the second half. The night also marked the first collegiate start for Gummer and the most minutes for Allen with 63. Dakota King recorded his first collegiate point with an assist on Dick's goal in the second half. For ETSU as a team, the six goals mark their most in a game since a 6-0 win over UNCG on October 6, 2023, and the third time in program history ETSU has scored six or more goals in a game.
The Bucs return to SoCon action on Sunday at 2 p.m. against VMI. Admission is free at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
