ETSU opened the 2026 season on Sunday with a 4-0 loss at No. 5 Vanderbilt. The defense held its own against relentless pressure for the first 70 minutes before the Commodores broke through for three goals late. It is just the second of four schedule games so far this season to be played to full time: their exhibition with USC Upstate was abandoned at halftime, and their original home opener with North Alabama was canceled due to field conditions.
Now the Bucs return home where they ride a 10-game unbeaten streak dating back to a 2-2 draw against Samford on October 20, 2024, to face a team they got the better of in the front end of this home-and-home series last year.
The Wolves were picked eighth of eight teams in the new-look United Athletic Conference this season, their third in Division I. They played Jacksonville State to a 1-1 draw on August 12 in Jacksonville and lost 1-0 to Mercer on Sunday in Carrollton. Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Sanabria was named the UAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first week of the season, stopping 24 of 26 shots on goal in the first two games.
This is the second meeting between ETSU and West Georgia in women's soccer. ETSU won at UWG in 2025 thanks to a goal and an assist from
Ruby Teixeira in a 2-0 win on September 4. She assisted a
Reagan Fitzgerald goal off a corner kick in the first half and curled in a shot after a deflected ball landed at her feet to seal the win just before the hour mark.
