SPARTANBURG, S.C. (May 7, 2026) – The ETSU baseball team will close out its regular season road schedule this weekend with a key road series at Wofford. The series will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and will continue Saturday at 2 p.m. before concluding with a matchup on Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games are scheduled to be on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – The Bucs closed out their non-conference schedule with a 12-10 loss to Radford on Tuesday. With Tuesday's loss, ETSU moves to 29-17 overall this season.
Stretch Run in the SoCon Title Race – With just two weeks to go in the regular season, there is still plenty to decide in terms of seeding for the upcoming SoCon Baseball Tournament. Currently, Western Carolina leads the league with a 12-6 record and will wrap up its league schedule against UNC Greensboro on May 14-16. Next is a four-way tie between ETSU, Mercer, Samford, and Wofford, who all are at 9-6. The top two teams will receive byes into Thursday, while the teams that finish third and fourth will avoid the single elimination portion of the tournament that will kick off things in Greenville on May 20. Three Straight Seasons with 30 or more wins – With one more win, the Bucs will reach 30 wins on the season. When ETSU, which won 36 games in 2024 and 41 in 2025, gets that next victory, it'll mark the first time since 1980-82 that the Buccaneers have won 30 or more games in three consecutive seasons.
Curless Continues to Hit – As the regular season comes to a close,
Tristan Curless has a chance to accomplish something that a Buccaneer has not done since 2010 and that is hit .400 or better for a full season. Curless, who was voted as the seventh-best first baseman in the country by D1Baseball.com earlier this week, is currently batting .403 this season with 14 home runs and 59 RBI. If he can maintain this pace, he'd be the first Buc since Paul Hoilman (.421) in 2010 to hit .400 or better for a season.
Success Based on the Number Six – Through 46 games this season, the number six has been key for ETSU. When the Bucs score six runs or more this season, they are 24-6 compared to a 5-11 mark when they don't reach that mark. ETSU has a similar trend on the pitching side as it is 25-4 when its opponents score fewer than six runs compared to 4-13 when they score six or more.
About Wofford – Wofford is currently 31-17 overall and 9-6 in SoCon action. The Terriers have had some stellar performances offensively and on the mound in 2026. Offensively, the Terriers are second in the SoCon with 112 stolen bases and boast a team batting average of .295. As a pitching staff, Wofford paces the conference in team ERA (4.22), walks allowed per nine innings (3.43), strikeout to walk ratio (2.56), and WHIP (1.37).
Series Rewind against the Terriers – ETSU and Wofford have met 70 times over the years. The all-time series has been nearly even with the Terriers holding the slight lead, 36-34. The Bucs took two of three from Wofford last season in Johnson City. ETSU will be looking for its first series win against the Terriers in Spartanburg since 2004.
