Last Time Out – ETSU had a successful trip to UConn over the weekend winning two of the three games. The Bucs won the first two games by scores of 14-7 and 6-1 before dropping the finale, 4-3. With those results, ETSU moved to 29-15 on the season.
Palmese Providing the Offensive Punch – One recent bright spot for ETSU offensively has been center fielder
Jamie Palmese. Since the beginning of April, Palmese has raised his batting average 43 percentage points (.301 to .344). Thanks to his hot streak at the plate, Palmese now ranks among the top 10 in the SoCon in doubles (3
rd – 17), hits (6
th – 63), and batting average (10
th - .344).
Tons of Two-Base Hits – With eight doubles in their series at UConn, the Bucs have surpassed 100 doubles on the season (102). Only Mercer (103) has hit more doubles than ETSU has among SoCon squads in 2026, but the Bucs rank 15
th nationally and pace the conference in terms of doubles per game (2.27). Palmese (17 doubles),
Nate Conner (15 doubles),
Tristan Curless (13 doubles), and
Tyler Fetterman (12 doubles) have led this charge for the Bucs this season.
Good Week on the Mound for ETSU – The Bucs went 3-1 last week and part of the reason for that success was the performance of the pitching staff. Collectively, the Bucs posted a 2.57 ERA in those four games and held opposing lineups to a .205 batting average, while striking out 38 hitters in 35 innings thrown.
Non-Conference Note – Tuesday will be the final non-conference game of the regular season for ETSU. The Bucs are 20-10 against non-SoCon foes this season and have outscored those opponents 254-140. Furthermore, ETSU has lost just one non-conference game at home this season (Appalachian State in late February) and boast a 15-1 record at Thomas Stadium this spring against teams outside the SoCon.
About Radford – The Highlanders currently sit at 21-21 this season. Radford is coming off back-to-back losses at Virginia but before that series, Radford had won four of its last five games. As a team, the Highlanders rely on speed to generate offense with 19 home runs in 42 games. Radford has stolen 54 bases in 2026 and pace the Big South with 11 triples as a team.
Series Rewind against the Highlanders – Tuesday will be the 61st all-time meeting between ETSU and Radford. Historically, the Bucs have held the edge winning 35 of the previous 60 matchups. The Highlanders, however, have won the last two matchups between the two programs, which were 10-8 last season in Johnson City and 4-3 earlier this year in Radford.
