Baseball continues road swing with a game at Radford on Tuesday

Bucs will aim for their first midweek road win of the season

RADFORD, Va. (April 6, 2026) – The ETSU baseball team will continue an eight-game road swing on Tuesday with a midweek matchup at Radford. Tuesday's game, which will not be streamed on ESPN+, is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m.

Probable Pitching Matchup
LHP Derek McCarley (ETSU) vs. LHP Ben Keefe (RAD) – Tuesday @ 3 p.m. | Live Stats

Last Time Out – The Bucs are coming off a series win on the road at Samford. After dropping game one to the Bulldogs by a score of 13-7, the Bucs rebounded to take the final two games by score of 4-3 and 6-4. Entering the second week of April, the Bucs are 21-8 overall and 6-3 in SoCon play.

Extra Base Machine – With a pair of doubles and a home run last week against Samford, Nate Conner continues to pile up the extra base hits for the Bucs. Of his 36 hits on the season, 22 have gone for extra bases (10 doubles, 10 home runs, two triples). Thanks to power numbers, Conner ranks second on the team with a 1.135 OPS.

Bucs on the Mound – As the season moves into April, the Buccaneer pitching staff leads the SoCon in multiple statistical categories. Collectively, the Bucs lead the conference in ERA (4.26), hits allowed per nine innings pitched (8.09), and WHIP (1.40). Furthermore, the Bucs have held opposing lineups to five runs or fewer in 20 of the team's 29 games this season. In those games, ETSU holds a record of 19-1.

Bucs with the Bases Loaded – One of the things that ETSU has used to build success this season has been its performance with the bases loaded. Offensively, the Bucs are hitting .375 (21-for-56) with the bases loaded, while the pitching staff is holding opposing teams to a .146 average (6-for-41) in that same situation.

On-Base Streak – Shortstop Henry Ferguson has reached base successfully in all 29 games this season. Ferguson also ranks third in the SoCon in on-base percentage (.519), sixth in batting average (.390), and tied for sixth in hits (41) with fellow Buc Tristan Curless.

About Radford – The Highlanders enter Tuesday's clash with the Bucs with a 14-14 overall record, which includes a 4-5 mark in Big South play. Radford is coming off back-to-back series wins over Longwood and USC Upstate and has a pair of midweek wins over James Madison this season as well. A player to watch for the Highlanders on Tuesday is Devin Parks. Parks is second among Radford's hitters with a .326 average and he is also the team leader in home runs (four) and stolen bases (10).

Series Rewind vs. Radford – Tuesday will be the 60th all-time meeting between ETSU and Radford. Historically, the Bucs have held the edge winning 35 of the previous 59 matchups. The Highlanders, however, won the lone game between the two schools a year ago (10-8 in Johnson City).
