JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - East Tennessee State softball fell in the series-opener versus Samford on Thursday afternoon. The Bucs (17-25, 5-11 SoCon) fell 3-5 to the Bulldogs (24-26, 12-4 SoCon) at Betty Basler Field.

How It Happened:
In the top of the third inning, Samford capitalized on a hit-by-pitch that was advanced to third on a single then scored on a throwing error in from the outfield. ETSU battled for the lead in the bottom of the third after Porter doubled to right center and was driven in by Moore's ninth home run of the season for the 2-1 advantage. Samford dropped a two run home run in the top of the fifth to go up 3-2 but ETSU tied it in the bottom of the frame after two singles and pair of walks brought the third run of the day in for the Bucs. ETSU and Samford were even heading into the final frame when the Bulldogs sent their second two-run home run of the day over the center field fence for the 5-3 advantage. The Bucs were unable to rally in the bottom of the seventh and the Bulldogs took the contest.
- Payton Moore boasted her ninth career home run in the contest for two RBI.
- Hailey Porter went 2-3 at the plate with one walk for the most efficient day at the plate by a Buccaneer. Porter accounted for two of the three runs scored by the Bucs.
- Addison Merritt walked in the bottom of the fifth for ETSU's third RBI of the outing.
- Leinani Lutu collected the team-high in putouts with five and was followed by Riley Martens, Riley Croley and Whitney Boone with four apiece. The four putouts for Croley were a career-high.
- Eden Muncy threw her third complete game of the season, surrendering just six hit while registered five strikeouts.
- The team totaled 25 at-bats, three runs, five hits, three RBI, drew six walks and collected four assists through the 21 putouts.
