ROCK HILL, S.C. - East Tennessee State softball (11-5, 0-0 SoCon) split the final day of the 2026 Winthrop Invitational with a 1-4 loss to the Georgia State Panthers (19-6, 0-0 SBC) and a 7-5 victory over the Bucknell Bison (1-16, 0-0 Patriot League).
GAME 1 NOTABLES (L, 1-4 vs. Georgia State)
How It Happened:Â
ETSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second from a
Payton Moore solo home run, her third of the season and of her career. Georgia State answered strong with two runs in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the sixth to secure the four runs for victory. The Bucs were unable to registered another run, landing their fourth loss of the weekend to go 0-2 against the Panthers.
- Payton Moore's solo home run was the third of the season for the sophomore utility and was also the third of her career.
- Tiare Rieger registered a season-high and game-high three assists alongside her four putouts. Rieger was the second of the Bucs' two hits in the outing.
- Hailey Porter tallied two assists with two putouts.
- The team totaled 24 at-bats, one run, two hits, one RBI, drew three walks and tallied six assists through the 18 putouts.
GAME 2 NOTABLES (W, 7-5 vs. Bucknell)
How It Happened:
The Bucs rallied, plain and simple. Bucknell jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and ETSU was able to tie it up 1-1 in the top of the sixth thanks to a trio of singles from Moore, Boone and Lutu. Bucknell then seized a sizable advantage in the bottom of the sixth with four runs to go up 4-1. Down four runs headed into the final inning, ETSU rallied with six runs from three walks, a single, a double and a three-run homer from
Payton Moore for her fourth of the season and her career. The six runs from the rally powered the Bucs past the Bison for the second time in the weekend.Â
- Patyon Moore's three-run home run was her fourth of the season and the fourth of her career, but the first of the season with multiple RBI attached.Â
- Gabrielle Fowler picked up her first win on the mound in the 2026 schedule through 2.0 innings pitched, giving up just three hits and one run.
- Eden Muncy started in the circle for the Bucs, picking up a season-high of seven strikeouts through her 5.0 innings of action. The seven strikeouts is the most by a Buc this season.
- Whitney Boone went 3-4 with two RBI and a double and crossed the plate herself twice, tallying three putouts in the field.
- Leinani Lutu was the team leader in putouts with seven and tacked on one assist behind the plate.
- Riley Croley collected the team-high of two assists in the contest with three putouts and went 1-3 at the plate with one double and one run scored.
- Cameron Lauretta subbed in to pinch hit and registered her first double of the season, driving in her first RBI of the season as well.Â
- The team totaled 32 at-bats, seven runs, 11 hits, seven RBI, drew four walks and tallied three assists through the 21 putouts.
