Softball drops a pair versus Radford in midweek meeting

The Bucs cap the series with a pair of losses

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - East Tennessee State softball (15-13, 3-3 SoCon) dropped both contests in the midweek doubleheader versus Radford (16-18, 3-3 Big South).  

GAME 1 NOTABLES (L, 2-3 vs. Radford)
How It Happened:
Radford jumped out to an early lead after a trio of singles and a pair of walks helped two runs across the plate in the top of the first.  Croley, as the lead off hitter, sent a solo home run over the right field fence for the first of two runs for the Bucs.  THe contest remained scoreless after the first frame until the bottom of the fifth when ETSU worked another run across after a double from Rieger and Coleman-Tillman's first triple of the season.  The contest then continued into extra innings after two additional scoreless frames.  Radford was able to work the winning run across in the top of the eighth after a runner was placed on second and driven in from a single.  ETSU was unable to respond and Radford won 3-2 in extra innings.
  • Riley Croley boasted her second collegiate home run as the lead off for her lone hit of the contest.  She collected two assists and two putouts in the field.
  • Leilani Coleman-Tillman recorded the team-high of two hits with one double and one triple, scoring the second run of the meeting for ETSU.  
  • Riley Martens tallied her second contest of the second with double digit putouts with 10 total at first base.
  • Hailey Porter registered the team-high four assists against the Highlanders with three putouts and on hit on offense.
  • The team totaled 30 at-bats, two runs, six hits, two RBI and nine assists through the 24 putouts.
GAME 2 NOTABLES (L, 1-10 vs. Radford)
How It Happened:
The Highlanders jumped out to an early lead again with three runs in the top of the first inning.  After a few scoreless innings on both ends, Radford tacked up seven runs through the fifth and sixth inning to reach 10 runs.  The Bucs were able to place one run on the board in the bottom of the sixth from a pair of singles and a walk but failed to rally further and the contest ended in a run rule after six innings.
  • Riley Croley, Payton Moore, Leinani Lutu and Tiare Rieger were the lone members of the squad to record a hit.  
  • Taylor Suchy tallied the team-high three assists for her season-high in the category.  
  • Riley Martens led the team with six putouts at first base and was followed by Abigail Taylor with a season-high five.
  • The team totaled 20 at-bats, one run, four hits, one RBI, drew five walks and tallied seven assists through the 18 putouts.

ETSU returns to action at Betty Basler field over April 3-4 to host Western Carolina for a Friday doubleheader and Saturday single game.
