JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - East Tennessee State softball dropped both contests in the SoCon doubleheader versus Western Carolina on Friday afternoon. The Bucs (15-15, 3-5 SoCon) fell 1-3 and 2-6 to the Catamounts (23-13, 5-3 SoCon) in the second home series of the conference slate.
GAME 1 NOTABLES (L, 1-3 vs. Western Carolina)
How It Happened:
ETSU was the first to the board after Porter singled, was advanced to second on a ground out and was driven in from a Coleman-Tillman single. The Bucs were unable to get the offense rolling later in the contest while the Catamounts took advantage late with solo runs through the final three innings from a pair of errors and a slew of singles and sac bunts to claim the 3-1 victory.
- Hailey Porter led ETSU with two hits and was the solo run to cross the plate for the Bucs after her single and a single from Leilani Coleman-Tillman. Porter also led the defense with a team-high three assists with her three putouts.
- Porter's two hits were followed by Whitney Boone, Taylor Suchy, Maddison Stowell and Coleman-Tillman with one apiece.
- Croley and Boone were the lone members of the squad to draw a walk.
- Riley Martens led the team in putouts with eight and was followed by Porter and Croley with three apiece.
- Taylor Suchy collected two assists and one putout during her complete game in the circle with her strikeout.
- The team totaled 27 at-bats, one run, six hits, one RBI, drew two walks and registered seven assists through the 21 putouts.
GAME 2 NOTABLES (L, 2-6 vs. Western Carolina)
How It Happened:
Western Carolina capitalized on corner situations early in the contest, collecting four runs from first-and-third scenarios and six total through the first four innings. ETSU responded with a solo home run from Moore in the bottom of the fourth, a Coleman-Tillman run from a Stowell single, a Catamount error and Muncy holding them conference-foe scoreless through the final three frames but the efforts fell flat and the Bucs were unable to rally.
- Eden Muncy tallied two strikeouts in the ring through 4.0 innings pitched and limited WCU to just one hit and no runs through 15 batters faced.
- Riley Croley registered the team-high of three assists with two putouts.
- Riley Martens led the team in putouts with five and was followed by Leilani Coleman-Tillman, Whitney Boone and Leinani Lutu with three apiece.
- Payton Moore led the offense with two hits, one being her seventh career home run. Coleman-Tillman, Boone, Lutu and Porter were the only additional Bucs to tally a hit in the showing.
- The team totaled 27 at-bats, two runs, six hits, one RBI and collected four assists through the 21 putouts.
