BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 29, 2026) – The No. 68 ETSU men's tennis team took full control of the Southern Conference (SoCon) title race with a 4-3 win on the road at No. 70 Samford on Sunday afternoon. The win is ETSU's 16
th in a row and boosts their record to 16-3 (4-0 SoCon) on the season. Furthermore, Sunday's victory was the 200
th in Director of Tennis
Ricky Rojas' tenure leading both Buccaneer tennis programs.
There was not a ton of separation between the two nationally-ranked programs on Sunday. Samford picked up the 1-0 advantage by winning the doubles point.
Oscar Martinez and
Martin Vergara won their match by a score of 7-6 against Darcy Nicholls/Sandeep Mohandoss.
Moving onto singles, the Buccaneers battled back.
Kai Cowcher and Martinez both tallied wins to get ETSU back into it before
Carlos Gonzales and Vergara both outlasted their respective opponents in three sets to clinch the match for the Blue and Gold. Vergara's win 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 was the winning match point for the Buccaneers.
