Women's basketball secures victory over Wofford

Jaidyn Harper leads Bucs with first career double-double

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - East Tennessee State women's basketball (11-11, 4-3 SoCon) upended the Wofford Terriers (11-11, 5-3 SoCon) on Thursday evening, 61-57.  The Bucs knocked off the current No. 3 team in the league in the same manner the squad was defeated by Wofford earlier this season at home, down until just after the half with a final surge to capture the victory, duplicating and inverting the score from the previous meeting.  The Bucs and Terriers split the regular season series at 1-1.  

NOTABLES
  • Jaidyn Harper led the squad offensively and defensively with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for her first career double-double.  The sophomore guard tacked on two blocks and one assist with her career night.
  • Anala Nelson, the graduate guard, led scoring with 17 points for her 10th contest of the season in double-digits, adding on five rebounds, the team-high of three assists and one steal. Nelson posted the best FG% of the squad at 58.3%, going 7-12 with one three pointer and two made free throws to reach her 17.
  • Senior guard Meghan Downing tied Nelson for the team-high of three assists, also tying her career-high.  Downing collected six rebounds and four points alongside her three assists.
  • Carmen Richardson was the third Buc to reach double-digit points in the contest, totaling 11 after going 5-10 in field goals with one made three pointer.  The sophomore guard tacked on four rebounds and one assist.
  • Daniela Lopez, the junior guard, tallied eight points with two rebounds, two assists and the game-high of two steals, including one steal and score.
  • Sophomore forward Kennedy Younkin tallied six points and three rebounds with one block.  Four of the six points arrived in the second half to push the Bucs towards tying the score, then eventually helped push the squad past Wofford with her 20 minutes of action, just 0.11 seconds short of her season-best in minutes played.
  • The team totaled 61 points, 42 rebounds, 13 assists, three steals and three blocks.  ETSU shot over 50% from the field in the second and fourth quarters, shooting 43% in the complete game for the best average by the squad this season.
