Baseball closes home stand with a three-game series against Quinnipiac

Bucs aim for their third consecutive series win to start 2026

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2026) – The ETSU baseball team will return to action this weekend with a three-game series against Quinnipiac. The series will begin on Friday and will run through Sunday with the series opener set for a 3 p.m. first pitch from Thomas Stadium.

Last Time Out – ETSU dropped its midweek contest to Appalachian State on Wednesday by a score of 8-5. With Wednesday's loss, the Bucs move to 6-2 on the season.
 
Harpster Named SoCon Pitcher of the Week Michael Harpster, who is scheduled to get the ball for the Bucs on Saturday, was named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Last week, Harpster threw five no-hit innings to go with nine strikeouts in ETSU's big 26-3 victory over Sacred Heart. For the season, Harpster has struck out 13 hitters in 8.2 innings of work and is holding opposing hitters to a .111 batting average. 

Patience at the Plate – ETSU's hitters have been one of the most patient lineups in the early going this season. The Bucs have worked 53 walks against 58 strikeouts. Henry Ferguson paces the Blue and Gold with nine walks and has a .632 on-base percentage this season. Tristan Curless has drawn seven walks against six strikeouts all while pacing the Bucs in home runs (four), RBI (12), total bases (24), and slugging percentage (.800).
 
Bucs against right-handed batters – The Bucs' pitching staff has done well against right-handed batters this season. In 157 at-bats, ETSU's pitchers are holding opposing right-handed batters to a .204 batting average. Overall, ETSU is holding the opponent's hitters to a .234 average through eight games this season.
 
About Quinnipiac – Quinnipiac will bring a 2-4 record with it to Johnson City this weekend. A player to watch this weekend for the Bobcats is Kyle Garbowski. Garbowski is hitting .455 so far this season with a 1.201 OPS with four RBI.  This weekend will be the first time that the Bucs and Bobcats have faced off in baseball.
