Bucs score 37 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Sacred Heart

ETSU remains unbeaten at home (6-0) and improves to 6-1 overall

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 21, 2026) – The ETSU baseball team scored 37 runs on its way to a doubleheader sweep of Sacred Heart on Saturday from Thomas Stadium. ETSU won game one by a score of 26-3 and then followed that with an 11-8 victory to complete the three-game sweep of the Pioneers. With the pair of victories on Saturday, the Bucs remain unbeaten at home (6-0) and improve to 6-1 on the season.

Game One Recap – ETSU was dominant on the mound and in the batters' box in the first game of the day. Offensively, the Bucs pounded out 21 hits, worked nine walks, and scored 26 runs. All 12 of the ETSU position players that took an at-bat in game one either had a hit or drove in a run in the victory. On the mound, the Bucs allowed just one Pioneer hit and struck out 15 batters.

ETSU hit four home runs in the lopsided win. Nate Conner hit his first two long balls as a Buc in game one, while Axel Melendez and Henry Ferguson also tallied homers. For Ferguson, it was the first home run of his collegiate career. Conner went 4-for-6 with those pair of home runs, scored five runs, and drove in four runs. Melendez also had a four-hit game finishing the contest 4-for-7 with four runs scored and knocked in five more Bucs. Tyler Fetterman collected three hits and knocked in five runs, and Ferguson also finished game one with three hits with one of those being his first career home run.

Michael Harpster was fully in command for ETSU to start the action on Saturday. The junior right hander threw five no-hit innings to go along with nine strikeouts. After Harpster departed, the quartet of Reid Brosnan, Tyler Kropis, Cody Carwile, and Derek McCarley carried the torch through the end of the game totaling six strikeouts and surrendered just one hit in the final four innings of action.

Furthermore, ETSU batted around in three different innings and scored its most runs in a game since 2024 (27). The 23-run victory was ETSU's largest since 2008 when it knocked off Maryland Eastern Shore by 27 runs (29-2).

Game Two Recap – In the most competitive game of the series, the Bucs and Pioneers combined for 19 runs through the first five innings of the series finale. ETSU scored two in the first, six in the third, two in the fourth, and one more in the fifth to reach double figures for the third straight game. Sacred Heart, meanwhile, put together its best performance offensively with eight runs, including a five-run fifth, to keep within striking distance.

After the flurry of scoring, the duo of Evan Rolison and Thomas Costarelli combined for 4.2 scoreless innings out of the Buccaneer bullpen allowing just two hits and striking out four to close out the series sweep over the Pioneers.

Ferguson led the charge with four hits in the series finale. ETSU also got stellar production from its number three and four hitters in Melendez and Tristan Curless as both players went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Conner slugged ETSU's lone home run in the second game of the day, which was a grand slam in the third inning.

Next Up - ETSU will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Appalachian State in a non-conference matchup. First pitch between the Bucs and Mountaineers is set for 3 p.m. from Thomas Stadium.
