Women's basketball powers past UNC Greensboro for Pink Out victory

The Bucs secure season sweep of the Spartans


JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - East Tennessee State women's basketball secured their seventh victory through the last eight outings, and a complete season sweep of the UNC Greensboro Spartans on Thursday evening.  The Bucs (14-12, 7-4 SoCon) upended the Spartans (13-14, 3-9 SoCon) 52-39 for the largest margin of victory for the squad in conference action thus far this season.

NOTABLES
  • Meghan Downing collected her eighth career double-double with 12 rebounds and 11 points to pace the squad to victory,  The senior forward was the top all-around contributor with her 12 rebounds, 11 points, three assists, two steals and three blocks, going 4-9 from the field and 3-6 from the line.
  • Anala Nelson was the top scorer for the Bucs with her 16 points, nine of which arrived in the third quarter to hold the Bucs steady at 35-28 heading into the final frame.  The graduate guard boasted three rebounds and two assists, having registered multiple assists in the last five outings and double-digit points in 13 contests this season.
  • Carmen Richardson registered the game-high of three steals for her fourth consecutive outing with multiple takes.  The sophomore guard totaled six points, two rebounds and one assist alongside the three steals.
  • Jaidyn Harper, the sophomore guard, was the third top-scorer in the outing, dusting the Spartans with seven points, three rebounds, two assists and one block.
  • Emmah McAmis, the freshman guard, tallied her in-conference game-high of five points after going 3-4 from the line, tacking on a career-high seven rebounds with two putbacks, one assist and one steal.
  • Junior guard Daniela Lopez was a solid contributor for the squad with six rebounds and five points.  Lopez opened scoring for the squad and drained one of the three made threes by the Bucs.
  • The team totaled 52 points, 39 rebounds, nine assists, six steals and four blocks, outscoring the Spartans 26-16 in the paint and 9-2 in second chance points.
  • ETSU jumped out early in scoring for the best scoring run late in the first quarter of 11-0 for the 11-7 first frame, holding onto the lead for the entirety of the game for just the third time this season. One of the biggest leads of the season arrived late in the fourth quarter, with the squad leading by 15 in the final seconds.  
  • The Bucs held the Spartans to their second lowest-scoring game of the season with just 39 points.  The victory was the third time in the 2025-26 schedule that the Bucs refused to let an opponent reach the 40-point mark.  The 52-39 win was the largest margin of victory for the squad in conference play this season.
