Box Score 2 CLINTON, S.C. - East Tennessee State softball closed the opening weekend action with wins over Albany and Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon. The Bucs open the season with a 4-0 record, the best start to the season in program history, and two run-rules under their belt.
GAME 1 NOTABLES (Albany)
- ETSU swept Albany in the season series, 2-0, securing the second victory 5-3 in the Saturday matinee.
- Catlin Pennington, the sophomore pitcher, collected her second career save through 1.1 innings pitched and four batters faced with one strikeout.
- Junior second baseman Tiare Rieger tallied her second career home run in the top of the fifth, bringing in two RBI. Rieger captured three putouts and three assists on the defensive side of the efforts.
- Senior catcher Leinani Lutu went 2-3 with one double and one run scored, collecting four putouts in the field.
- Riley Martens, the junior infielder, boasted the individual single-game high of nine putouts, tying her career-high.
- Freshman infielder Riley Croley went 1-4 at the plate with one run scored, reaching three assists and one putout to be a top defensive contributor for the Bucs.
- ETSU recorded five runs on seven hits with just one error and 21 putouts with 11 assists.
GAME 2 NOTABLES (Mercyhurst)
- Whitney Boone, the sophomore outfielder, tallied the third home run of the season for the squad and the second of her career, going 3-4 at the plate with a career-high four RBI. Boone collected two putouts in the outing.
- Senior outfielder Taylor Suchy went 2-4 and tallied one run with two putouts.
- Leinani Lutu, the senior catcher, forced five putouts and went 2-4 at the plate with one run scored and two RBI.
- Freshman infielder Hailey Porter doubled in the outing for the first in her career, wrapping the outing 3-4 with one RBI and one run scored, tallying three putouts on the defensive side of the field.
- Kaela Ciarletta, the sophomore infielder, made her season debut at the plate with three hits on four at bats and one RBI and one run scored - all career-firsts.
- Freshman infielder Riley Croley tallied two putouts and went 1-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
- ETSU recorded 10 runs on 18 hits with two errors and 18 putouts and two assists. The squad collected their second run-rule of the season over the Lakers.
