The Bucs sit second in the SoCon in points with two games remaining, although both UNCG and Furman have a game in hand on ETSU. A win on Saturday paired with a UNCG win over Wofford would put the Bucs in first place outright in the SoCon with one game remaining at UNCG on Halloween. The team is unbeaten in its last three contests after a goalless draw against Mercer last Saturday that extended the team's shutout streak to 334:34, the fifth-longest streak in program history and the second-longest not to include any overtime. ETSU had one shutout in the first 13 games before the streak began.

The Paladins have recovered from a choppy start to the season to rise into the top 60 in RPI with three consecutive wins, outscoring VMI, Virginia Tech, and USC Upstate by a combined 16-4 during their three-game winning streak. Wilfer Bustamante is ninth in the country with 10 goals and 13th with 23 total points. He enters Saturday having scored eight times during Furman's winning streak, including hat tricks in consecutive games against the Hokies and Spartans.

Furman is a long-standing nemesis of the Buccaneers in men's soccer, holding a 12-4-7 advantage in the all-time series. ETSU's last win over Furman came in a landmark result at Stone Stadium when Kieran Richards scored in the 64th and Tarik Pannholzer scored a penalty in the 89th to seal a 2-0 win for the Buccaneers during their 2023 regular season title campaign.
