The Bucs are 3-0 in SoCon play for the first time since 2017-18 after a convincing 81-67 win over VMI on Wednesday. Cam Morris III tied a career-high with 25 points and eclipsed 1,000 career points in the second half against the Keydets. Blake Barkley chipped in his third 20 point game of the season, all since December 1. ETSU's defense ranks 34th in the country at 66.6 points per game, and they are 53rd in field goal defense at 40.4%.

After a dismal start to the year, the Spartans have turned their fortunes around and won five of their last seven games, including their first two SoCon matchups with Chattanooga (77-72) and Samford (89-82). They lost to Wofford 97-85 on Wednesday in Spartanburg. Albany transfer Justin Neely has led the offense during that time with double-digit points in all seven games and 20 or more points five times and five double-doubles. Neely is fourth in the nation in rebounds per game at 11.3 and is the only player in the SoCon averaging more than 10 rebounds per game.

ETSU has a slight edge in the all-time series, 24-20 in 44 prior meetings. The Bucs have won four of the last six meetings and the last three at Freedom Hall. They dominated the second half against the Spartans in the 2025 home matchup, outscoring them 33-17 in the second session to win 65-49 on February 19. Quimari Peterson had a double-double with 29 points and 13 rebounds.
