ETSU edges Eastern Kentucky, 4-3

Bucs earn first win of the season

RICHMOND, Ky. (Jan. 13, 2026) – The ETSU men's tennis team battled back from a 3-0 deficit to knock off Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday by a score of 4-3. Tuesday's win was the Bucs' first of the 2026 campaign and moves their record to 1-3.

As mentioned earlier, EKU jumped out to an early lead. First, the doubles point went to the Colonels before wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots pushed EKU to match point. However, credit goes to the Bucs for battling back to not only tie the score but also secure the win. Oscar Martinez got the Bucs on the board first before Kai Cowcher and Arenui Luethi pulled the Bucs back even. Sophomore Carlos Gonzales then clinched the win for the Bucs with a 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 victory from the No. 6 singles position.
