JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sep. 7, 2025) - If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
Reagan Fitzgerald breathed new life into that tired old saying on Sunday.
Fitzgerald scored after a blocked shot deflected right back to her for a second-chance opportunity to lift ETSU to a 1-0 win over UNC Asheville on Sunday.
In a game where the Buccaneers (4-2-2) dominated possession, the breakthrough eluded them until the hour mark. Fitzgerald fired a shot in traffic at the top of the box that was blocked by a Bulldogs (4-2-1) defender but caromed off two more Bulldogs behind Fitzgerald and landed back at her feet in more space. She put her right boot through the ball from 15 yards out and launched it into the bottom-right corner of the net. With her fifth goal this season, the junior from Oviedo, Florida, is now tied with Chattanooga's Paige Thomas atop the SoCon goal-scoring charts. It was her 12th career goal.
The Bucs pelted the Bulldogs with 14 shots to just one for UNC Asheville, with nine shots on goal to just one. The win marks ETSU's first three-game winning streak since October 5-12, 2023, and the Bucs have outshot opponents 49-9 during the winning streak. Goalkeeper Addison Yelton has not conceded a goal since the 23rd minute of ETSU's game at Tennessee Tech on August 28th, a span of 337:36.
The Bucs play their final non-conference game on Thursday at Summers-Taylor Stadium against Radford. Kickoff is set for 6:00pm. Admission is free to all matches at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
