Bays collects seventh career double-double versus Akron

Bucs fall in four at Akron

AKRON, Ohio - East Tennessee State women's volleyball closed day one action in the Northern Ohio Tournament at Akron.  The Bucs (1-4, 0-0 SoCon) fell to the Zips (3-2, 0-0 MAC) in four sets on Friday evening.

NOTABLES
  • Makayla Bays tallied her seventh career double-double, and first of the season, in the match.  The sophomore outside hitter collected 11 kills and 12 digs in the match, with 17 perfect receptions, one ace and one block assist.  For the fifth consecutive match, Bays had been the top offensive asset, and for the third consecutive match, she has reached double-digit kills.
  • Melanie Morris posted a season-best performance in the backrow, collecting 15 digs for the match-high and team-high this season.  The junior libero also saw 28 receptions and dished an ace against the MAC foe.
  • Whitley Rammel, the senior middle blocker, posted a season-high seven block assists in the match, just one from tying her career-best of eight.  Rammel tacked on six kills and two digs in the outing.
  • Senior outside hitter Brianna Cantrell and senior opposide hitter Belle Iosua join Gianna Blair as the only members of the squad to post a block solo thus far into the season.  Iosua also collected three block assists while Cantrell tallied two with eight kills and eight digs.
  • Freshman outside hitter Sophie Davis had a standout evening, posting a career-best eight kills of a .467 clip with nine assists, two aces, six digs and one block assist.  Her .467 hitting percentage was a match-best mark.
  • The Bucs totaled 40 kills, 40 assists, six aces, 49 digs, 18 block assists and two block solos.

ETSU returns to action on Saturday for a midday matchup at Cleveland State to close out the Northern Ohio Tournament.  First serve is set for noon at the Woodling Gymnasium.
