The Bucs are seeking their first win of 2025 after a 3-2 loss to Longwood last Friday. They pulled level with the Lancers in the 76th minute thanks to
Stanley Isaac's first goal in ETSU colors, but conceded the game-winner less than two minutes later. Isaac and
Henrique Cruz have scored the only two goals for the Bucs this season, and freshman goalkeeper
Emil Holmberg has been swimming in the deep end to start his college career, facing 20 shots on goal in his first three games.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are the #13 team in the United Soccer Coaches top 25 and poised for one of, if not their best season ever under third year head coach Scott Wells. They defeated #6 West Virginia 1-0 in Morgantown on Wednesday. Tiago Campos scored in the 14th minute, and Gardner-Webb made it stand up by limiting the Mountaineers to just three shots on goal. The offense has been led so far this season by a resurgent Jaylen Orr, who has three goals in four games this season after scoring once in 11 contests in his junior year. Alan Horrocks is one of the top goalkeepers in the nation, ranking 14th in goals against average (0.25) and 20th in save percentage (.917).
This is the fourth meeting between ETSU and Gardner-Webb in men's soccer. The two sides have met annually since 2022, and ETSU leads the series 2-1. The last game in Boiling Springs was a 1-0 ETSU win thanks to a
Gabriel Ramos goal in the 11th minute in 2023, and the Bucs won 3-1 in Johnson City last year thanks to Ramos and a brace from
Oliver Einarsson.
