JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - East Tennessee State women's volleyball opened the home slate of the 2025 campaign on Friday afternoon versus Virginia Commonwealth. The Bucs (3-4, 0-0 SoCon) defeated the Rams (1-4, 0-0 A-10) in four sets (22-25, 18-25, 28-26, 28-26) in the matinee.
NOTABLES
- Whitley Rammel led the Bucs against with Rams with a season-high 13 kills on a match-high .423 clip with the team-high of five block assists, marking her fifth match of the season with three or more block assists. The senior middle blocker also boasted a career-high two aces, collecting the points back-to-back.
- Makayla Bays joined Rammel as the only other individual to reach double-digit kills in the contest. The sophomore outside hitter reached her fourth match of the season with double-digit kills, recording 12, with a career-high four aces and eight digs on 37 receptions.
- Gianna Blair, the redshirt sophomore middle blocker, tied her career-high in kills with six and tied Rammel for the team-high of five block assists.
- Freshman outside hitter Sophie Davis reached a career-high four block assists in the match, tacking on four kills, one ace, three assists and one digs for all-around contribution.
- Brianna Cantrell, the senior outside hitter, recorded her best offensive production of the season thus far, boasting nine kills with one ace. Cantrell also contributed heavily to the defense with three block assists and seven digs.
- Melanie Morris led the backrow for the third consecutive match with the game-high of 14 digs. The junior libero also dished an ace and saw 22 receptions versus the Rams.
- Junior Alex Kreutzmann and freshman Bailey Gohlke, the setters, split the offense with 21 assists for Kreutzmann and 19 for Gohlke, a career-high for the junior and a tied career-high for the freshman. Gohlke also boasted an ace and four digs in the contest.
- The Bucs totaled 51 kills, 45 assists, 10 aces, 46 digs and 20 block assists in the four sets.
