Fitzgerald Strike Saves Draw Against UAB

87th minute goal from outside the box put Bucs on level terms with Blazers in home opener

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 17, 2025) - Reagan Fitzgerald is two for two.

A 20-yard screamer to the back post by the junior forward in the 87th minute salvaged a 1-1 draw with UAB on Sunday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

The oppressive heat kept both teams from being aggressive in the first half, seeing limited chances as players managed their way through the conditions. The Blazers (0-1-1) outshot the Buccaneers (1-0-1) 2-1 in the first half, with neither team registering a shot on goal.

The second half saw the teams push forward more, but an innocent-looking loose ball on the right edge of the box sat up perfectly for UAB's Mia Leath to hit a low, hard shot to the left post past a diving Addison Yelton to put the Blazers in front in the 69th minute.

The Bucs poured the pressure on in search of an equalizer, and Fitzgerald missed in tight from the right side against UAB keeper Leah Parsons aiming for a crease of daylight over the keeper's head. When she got a second chance, this time from distance, she caught Parsons off her line and hit a thunderbolt that brought the crowd to its feet. It was Fitzgerald's ninth career goal and her second this season after scoring the game-winner against North Alabama last Thursday.

ETSU plays four of its next five on the road, starting with a trip to Lexington to face Kentucky this coming Thursday.
