JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 1, 2025) – East Tennessee State University women's basketball head coach
Brenda Mock Brown announced the signing of three players from the transfer portal on Thursday.
Yanessa Boyd, Daniela López and Anala Nelson will join ETSU this summer ahead of the 2025-26 season.
"I am extremely grateful for the hard work our staff and returning players put into completing our roster for next season," Mock said. "In addition, I want to thank our compliance office, academic services, admissions, and our communications team for their contributions to this process.
"To date, we have signed three amazing players and people who love the game and are proud to be part of our program. All three of these young women will make an immediate impact on and off the court and I am excited to introduce them to the ETSU community."
Yanessa Boyd | 5-9 | G | Junior | St. Francis (PA) | Frederick, Md.
Boyd comes to Johnson City from St. Francis. Her best game for the Red Flash came in a December matchup with Duquesne, when she scored 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 shooting from 3-point range. She added three rebounds and a career-high two blocks against the Dukes.
"Yanessa brings experience, length, and athleticism to our perimeter game and will help us score additional points from the free throw line," Mock said. "She has an extremely high motor, can get to the rim, and was the best defender on her previous team which is the mindset we are looking for in all our players. Her ceiling is high, and I am excited to see what she is capable of when she arrives this summer to work. Yanessa is extremely excited to be a Buc, and the staff and team loved her energy and enthusiasm from our first time meeting her."
Boyd started 48 of 57 games she played in during her time in Loretto, averaging 27 minutes per game as a sophomore. She scored in double-digits 15 times, and recorded career highs of eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Daniela López | 5-10 | G | Junior | Xavier | Barcelona, Spain
López comes to Johnson City after spending two years at Xavier. Her best game in Cincinnati came against Miami Ohio, when she scored 15 points with four rebounds and a pair of steals against the RedHawks.
"Dani is a great addition to our squad as we were looking to replace productivity and scoring, especially from behind the arc and add size to our backcourt," Mock said. "She's a smart, physical player who can create a shot in the paint and be a strong rebounder. She is a very mature, focused, young lady who brings a wealth of experience from playing in the Big East conference that will translate well in the SoCon."
Lopez scored in double digits 12 times as a Musketeer, and shot 43.4% from the field as a sophomore. She made the 2023-24 Big East All-Academic team, and holds career highs of seven rebounds and four steals.
Anala Nelson | 5-7 | G | Grad Transfer | Austin Peay | Columbia, S.C.
Nelson comes to Johnson City after graduating in three years at Austin Peay. She had a standout season as a sophomore, averaging 4.1 assists per game (136 total) and posted 19 double-digit games for the Governors while starting all 33, including 21 in an upset win over Kentucky.
"Anala is a fierce competitor who brings tremendous experience and success to our program after a 3-year stint at Austin Peay leading the Atlantic Sun in assists her sophomore season," Mock said. "She has a high basketball IQ and plays multiple positions on the perimeter including lead guard. She plays with great pace, can score and distribute at a high level and often guarded the best player on opposing teams which is paramount to be effective in our overall system."
In her junior year, Nelson scored a season-high 14 points on 7-for-11 shooting at Lipscomb, and played a career high 42 minutes against Eastern Kentucky. She holds career highs of nine rebounds, nine assists and five steals.
