SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 14, 2025) – The Southern Conference announced on Monday that ETSU baseball players Blake Jacklin and Brady Frederick earned SoCon Player of Week and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively. It is the first weekly award that each student-athlete has earned in their time at ETSU.
 
Jacklin led ETSU's offense in its three-game sweep of Western Carolina last weekend. Jacklin hit a team-best .571 (8-for-14) with five runs scored, one home run, three RBI and three stolen bases. Jacklin, who tallied at least one hit and one run in all three wins, had his best game in a Buccaneer uniform on Sunday. Jacklin went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate and capped the day off with a walk-off three-run home run to finish off an 11-0 run-rule victory over the Catamounts. Jacklin stole three bases on Sunday and scored three of ETSU's 11 runs to help finish off the sweep.
 
Frederick played a key role in two of ETSU's three wins over Western Carolina over the weekend. In Friday's 9-2 win, Frederick tossed two shutout innings, allowed one walk and struck out four. Frederick then returned to the mound on Saturday against WCU. In that appearance, Frederick inherited a bases loaded jam with nobody out and got out of it with just one run allowed. The Knoxville native then took the ball the rest of the way to nail down ETSU's 3-1 win over Western Carolina. For his efforts, Frederick earned his first career save. Frederick pitched the final four innings on Saturday, allowed two hits and struck out four. Overall, Frederick allowed just four baserunners in six innings of work, held WCU's offense to a .105 batting average and racked up eight strikeouts.
 
It marks just the third time in program history that the Bucs have swept the SoCon weekly awards. The first happened on April 3, 2000, when Matt Baber (Pitcher) and Chad Boruff (Player) were honored. The last time ETSU collected both weekly awards from the SoCon was on May 18, 2015, when Hagen Owenby (Player) and Jimmy Nesselt (Pitcher) were recognized for stellar performances.
 
Jacklin, Frederick and the rest of the Bucs will return to action on Tuesday when they host Virginia Tech. First pitch for that game is set for 5 p.m. from Thomas Stadium.
