KENNESAW, Ga. (March 2, 2025) – East Tennessee State University softball fell again, 8-4 to St. John's and 10-2 to host Kennesaw State to close the Kennesaw State Tournament on Sunday
Senior infielder
Cameron Young led ETSU with a 3-for-5 day that included a double, RBI and two walks.
In the opener against St. John's, the Bucs came out quickly with an RBI groundout from sophomore infielder
Makayla Veglia that scored Young. The Red Storm answered in the bottom of the second and third, using a pair of sacrifice flies and RBI singles to take a 5-1 lead.
ETSU responded in the top of the fourth. Sophomore utility
Tiare Rieger added her second RBI of the year, driving in
Whitney Boone, and senior infielder
Riley Nayadley used a bases loaded hit to bring the Bucs within one at 5-4.
The Blue & Gold couldn't push any more runs across, though, and didn't get a hit in the last three innings while St. John's added three more insurance runs for an 8-4 win.
In the finale from Kennesaw, it was the Owls that jumped in front immediately, with a five-run bottom of the first. Young, who had two of ETSU's four hits in the second game, hit an RBI single in the top of the second, and Nayadley added an RBI groundout, but it was all the Bucs could muster.
The Kennesaw State offense kept humming, scoring in every inning. The Owls capped the afternoon with a walk-off run-rule RBI double in the bottom of the fifth for a 10-2 win.
Next, ETSU returns to Johnson City for its first home contests of the 2025 slate. The Bucs will host the Buccaneer Softball Classic from March 6-9, beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, against Mercyhurst.
