Moore shines in senior day win over Furman

Bucs will rematch with Paladins in first round of SoCon Championship

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 1, 2025) – East Tennessee State University women's basketball used a 20-point performance from 5th year guard Courtney Moore to down Furman, 62-50, on Saturday.

The Bucs honored their four seniors – Moore, Kendall Folley, Braylyn Milton and Isabella Hunt – before the game, and all four made an impact in their final game at Brooks Gymnasium. Hunt played a season high 27 minutes and led ETSU with eight rebounds, Folley scored 12 with three assists, and Milton added 11 points.

The 18th ranked Buccaneer defense came out steaming, stifling Furman in the first quarter as the Paladins went 3-for-15 from the field. In the meantime, Milton knocked down a pair of triples en route to a 17-8 ETSU lead.

After the first quarter, though, Furman battled back. Moore scored 12 in the second and third, but short droughts stuck with the Bucs in the middle two quarters. A tightly officiated game saw the two squads combine for 40 free throw attempts, as ETSU committed its second most fouls of the season with 20 and Furman committed its fourth highest total of fouls on the year with 25, for 45 combined fouls.

The Blue & Gold were aided by Furman's 4-for-8 third quarter at the charity stripe, but the lead was down to 42-39 heading into the final frame.

With ten minutes left in their careers at home, the senior quartet left it all on the floor of Brooks. Folley and Moore both hit 3-pointers to build an 8-0 run through the first three Buccaneer possessions of the quarter. Milton and junior forward Meghan Downing, who added three blocks on Saturday to move to 65 on the season, extending her ETSU single season record, combined to make it a 12-2 run. The Bucs' defense locked in again, allowing just two Furman points in the first six minutes of the quarter.

Milton hit a dagger triple for ETSU's final shot from the field with 3:40 to play to extend the lead to 13. The Paladins cut back into the lead, but late free throws for ETSU wrapped up the 62-50 victory.

With the win and Wofford's loss to Chattanooga on Saturday, the Bucs secured the No. 3 seed in the SoCon Championship and will face Furman again after taking both of the regular season contests against the Paladins.

The 3-6 seed game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff on March 6 at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C.
