5th year guard Courtney Moore continued her torrid stretch in Thursday's win over Western Carolina, scoring 24 points on 4-for-9 shooting from 3-point range, the sixth time this season Moore has knocked down a quartet of triples. The Gainesville, Fla. product extended her streak of scoring in double-digits to ten games. She hasn't finished a game scoring less than ten since Dec. 20.
As a team, ETSU outrebounded WCU 38-31, highlighted by a +11 margin on the offensive glass. Junior forward Meghan Downing grabbed six offensive rebounds en route to her fifth double-digit game on the glass this season. Downing is also seven blocks away from breaking the single-season school record (currently 51, held by Serena Clark and Candace Gibson).
The Spartans are led by Jayde Gamble, who averages 12.5 points and 2.8 assists per game, and Nya Smith, who scores 11 per night. Khalis Cain grabs 7.5 rebounds to go with 7.1 points per game.
UNCG leads the conference with a 7-1 record in SoCon play. The only blemish on the Spartans resume was a road loss at Wofford. The Terriers held UNCG, who boasts one of the best defenses in the country and a strong offense to match, to a season-low 39 points. Otherwise, only Western Carolina and Chattanooga have stayed within single digits of the Spartans in conference action.
The last time the two teams met, UNCG controlled the fourth quarter en route to a 64-43 win. The all-time series is level at 23 games apiece, and the Bucs are 2-3 in the Mock Brown era. Both sides have held serve at home over the last three years. 5th year guard Courtney Moore scored ten in early January, and was the only Buc to tally double digits in the matchup.
