Lopez pushes Bucs past Eastern Illinois

Daniela Lopez collected career-highs in points and rebounds as the Bucs collect their second win of the weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - East Tennessee State women's basketball (3-6, 0-0 SoCon) pushed past the Eastern Illinois Panthers (1-7, 0-0 OVC) 60-54 on Sunday afternoon in the KFC YUM! Center.

Daniela Lopez guided the Bucs to the win with her career-highs in points (22), rebounds (9), field goals made (8) and three-points made (4) with the game-highs in each category.  Through the first half alone, Lopez was 4-7 from the field and 2-2 from the line with five rebounds.

NOTABLES
  • Lopez, the junior guard, led the squad with her 22 points and nine rebounds with the team-high of two assists.
  • Graduate guard Anala Nelson reached double-digit points for the fourth time this season with her 12.  Nelson went 4-8 in the field and 4-4 from the line for her third contest of the season with a perfect free throw percentage.  She tacked on four rebounds and tied Lopez for the team-high of two assists.
  • Downing followed Lopez and Nelson's offensive efforts with six points, two field goals and two free throws, with three rebounds and her 132 career block.
  • Freshman guard Emmah McAmis was the second most effective rebounder for the squad with a career-high six.
  • The team totaled 60 points, 39 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks with 12 of 14 Bucs seeing action.

  • Lopez and freshman guard SaBreya Monsanto each boasted four points in the paint apiece with three driving layups between the pair.
  • The Bucs outscored the Panthers 6-2 in points from turnovers, 12-8 in points in the paint and 6-3 in bench points.

  • Lopez boasted seven points in the second frame, tacking on three rebounds and two assists for her most dominate quarter of the contest.
  • The squad maintained their largest margin in a quarter, going 18-12 through the second with an eight-point scoring run late in the frame.

  • Lopez reached a single-frame individual single-game high of nine points in the third, going 3-3 on three point attempts. Monsanto tacked on three rebounds and one assist as the next top product in the quarter.
  • ETSU reached a 60% three-point percentage and a 35.7% field goal percentage to out-shoot EIU in the quarter.

  • Nelson was the fourth quarter leader for the squad with three rebounds, four points and one assist, followed by Downing with four points and Lopez with three rebounds.
