ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The No. 1 seed East Tennessee State volleyball team upended No. 8 seed Western Carolina in the Southern Conference Tournament Quarterfinals to advance to the Semifinals. The Bucs (22-6, 15-1 SoCon) swept (25-22, 25-19, 25-22) the Catamounts (8-21, 3-13 SoCon) on Friday afternoon. ETSU will face No. 5 seed UNC Greensboro on Saturday, November 22 at 4 p.m. in Harrah's Cherokee Center as one of the four remaining teams.
NOTABLES
- Makayla Bays boasted her sixth match of the season with 20+ kills, reaching 20 in the sweep of the Catamounts. Bays, the sophomore outside hitter, recorded her 10th double-double of the season and the 16th of her career with her 20 kills and 11 digs, tacking on four aces for the fourth time this season.
- Chloe Smith, the freshman outside hitter, saw her first collegiate start in the contest, going on to collect 13 kills on a .333 clip with one ace, three digs and two total blocks for career-highs in kills and blocks.
- Melanie Morris reached her 1,000th career dig with her 11th dig of the match. The junior libero collected a season-high 25 digs at 8.33 digs per set with eight assist and a flawless match-high 35 receptions.
- Junior setter Alex Kreutzmann tallied her fifth career double-double with 11 digs and 16 assists.
- Whitley Rammel, the senior middle blocker, posted her 16th match of the season hitting over .400, hitting exactly .500 with eight kills and no errors on 16 attempts.
