JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 5, 2025) - The ETSU women's soccer team played Chattanooga to a 1-1 draw at Summers-Taylor Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the second draw in the last four meetings between the two squads. Ava Duffey scored an equalizing goal for the Bucs in the 32nd minute, and neither team was able to solve the other in the second half. The result stretches ETSU's school-record unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 7-0-3 mark during the streak.
All the scoring in the game occurred in a seven minute span in the first half, starting in the 25th when Mocs (8-3-3, 2-1-2) forward Quinn Johnson got free on the end of a long pass forward and streaked through the defense and lasered a shot past Addison Yelton into the side netting on the right side of the goal to put Chattanooga in front of the Buccaneers (8-2-4, 3-0-2).Â
Duffey's goal came from a failed clearance attempt shortly after, with the sophomore calling off Alex Beck, deking out a defender and firing a low, hard strike from 25 yards out into the right post, deceiving Caroline Ekern through the traffic for her second goal of 2025 and her career.Â
The Buccaneers had a chance right out of halftime to break through when Reagan Fitzgerald got on the end of a free kick from Grace Eatz, but her header from just outside the box sailed wide right. Yelton faced multiple chances, including a leaping parry save on a shot by Caroline Ritchvalsky in the 58th and an acrobatic save lunging across the goal mouth to take away an open net from Caroline Salinas off the ensuing corner kick. Yelton's save on Salinas turned away the final shot on goal in the match even as the in-state rivals asked questions of each other's defenses throughout the final half-hour.Â
The Buccaneers were outshot 10-7, with four shots on goal to just one. The draw combined with Samford's 2-2 draw with Furman means ETSU remains tied for first place in the SoCon with four games to play. They visit Furman on Friday at 7:00pm.Â
