GREENVILLE, S.C. (October 10, 2025) - The Bucs will have to wait a little longer for their first-ever win at Stone Stadium, but a points-paying result is a reasonable compromise.
The ETSU women's soccer team played Furman to a 1-1 draw on Friday night in Greenville, securing their second-ever point against the Paladins on their home field. ETSU previously played Furman to a 0-0 draw in their last visit in 2023. The draw extends ETSU's program record unbeaten streak to 11 games dating back to August 28.
The Buccaneers (8-2-5, 3-0-3) jumped on the board in the 53rd minute when Ruby Teixeira zipped a corner kick along the end line for an unmarked glancing header by Jada Cooper, who steered it behind her and well over the heads of a stunned Paladins (8-2-4, 2-1-3) defense for her fourth goal this season and her 11th point in the last seven games.
The Paladins mounted their answer just before the hour mark. Jessica Mattson set off on a storming run through the middle of the field after gathering the ball off a throw-in and pushed a delicate through-ball ahead for Norah Roller on an overlapping run down the left wing. Roller swept through the box and fired over Addison Yelton's head, striking the top netting her sixth goal of 2025.
Furman challenged Yelton again shortly after when Briyah Drayton rose above traffic for a header off a corner kick, but Yelton got a glove to the ball and steered it over the bar. Ava King floated a cross in for Emma Sexton in the 79th minute, but her header was likewise turned away by a lunging effort from Yelton to protect her left goal post on what proved to be the final shot on goal for either team in the game.
ETSU outshot the Paladins14-13 with seven shots on goal to the Paladins' four, including five in the first half. Reagan Fitzgerald had five shots with three on goal while Cooper had three, all of which were on frame. Yelton made three saves in total.
With the draw and Samford's win over VMI, the Bucs slip to second in the SoCon standings with three games to play. They take six days off before hosting Western Carolina next Thursday at 6:00pm.
