JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - East Tennessee State volleyball moved to first overall in Southern Conference play after defeating the only other undefeated team in the league. The Bucs (12-5, 6-0 SoCon) defeated the Paladins (13-4, 4-1 SoCon) in four sets (25-13, 25-19, 19-25, 25-10) on Friday night.
NOTABLES
- Brianna Cantrell led the offense in her best outing of the season with 17 kills on a .405 clip with 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. The senior outside hitter saw 19 receptions and tallied one block alongside her double-double.
- Sophomore outside hitter Makayla Bays notched her 11th career double-double with her 15 kills and 12 digs in the contest, racking up the team-high of 29 receptions and match-high of four aces.
- Another standout night for senior middle blocker Whitley Rammel as she posted a career-high 14 kills on a .524 clip with three block assists, one ace and four digs. Rammel has now reached four consecutive matches hitting over .500. with at least three total blocks.
- Freshman setter Bailey Gohlke tallied a career-high 35 assists with 11 digs for her fifth career double-double while dishing two aces in the contest.
- Melanie Morris, the junior libero, collected the team-high of 17 digs with 16 perfect receptions, three aces and three assists.
- Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Gianna Blair led defense at the net for the fourth consecutive match with the match-high of four block assists, tacking on four kills in the outing.
- Chloe Smith, the freshman outside hitter, posted a career-high of three kills with one dig and two block assists against the Paladins.
- The Bucs totaled 66 kills, 63 assists, 10 aces, 62 digs and 14 total blocks in the four-set match. Eight of 11 individuals who saw action in the match tallied a kill while nine of 11 each collected a dig.
