JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 29, 2024) – In a rematch of last year's Southern Conference quarterfinal game, the ETSU women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Mercer on Sunday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.
Mercer's Larkin Thomason recorded a brace as she netted goals in the eighth and 57th minutes, marking her 10th and 11th goals of the season.
The Bucs, who suffered their first setback in SoCon play, moved to 2-5-2 overall and 1-1-1 in league play. Mercer earned its first conference win as the Bears improved to 7-3-2, 1-1-1.
Both teams tallied double-digit shots as the Blue & Gold finished with 15 and Mercer totaled 16.
Ashton Blair notched six saves, while ETSU tested the Bears' keeper three times. The Bucs were plus-two in corner kicks, 7-5, and the teams combined for just five fouls.
Annabelle Ekern led the team with three shots, while
Reagan Fitzgerald added two, including one on target.
Ella Parker and
Megan Burleson accounted for ETSU's other two shots on net.
The Bucs return to action on Thursday night as ETSU is scheduled to play at Wofford at 6 p.m.
