Bucs blanked by Mocs in Chattanooga, 2-0

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Oct. 6, 2024) – The ETSU women's soccer team surrendered a pair of quick goals near the midway point of the second half and the Buccaneers were blanked by Chattanooga, 2-0, on Sunday evening at Finley Stadium.

Despite keeping the Mocs scoreless for the first 60-plus minutes, ETSU couldn't muster any offense and Chattanooga scored goals in the 64th and 67th minutes to take control of the match.

Zoey Mize scored her first goal of the season on a header off a cross by Caroline Richvalsky, while Richvalsky notched her fifth goal of the campaign when EG Dillard found her on the run up the middle for the Mocs' final goal in the 67th minute.

Both teams registered 11 shots for the match, while Grace Eatz took three with all of them coming on target. Her final attempt in the 79th came in a one-on-one situation where she tried to lob a chip shot over Caroline Ekern; however, the Chattanooga keeper came away with a save. Earlier in the half, with the game still scoreless, Natalie Capannelli appeared to have had a good look, but her shot just went left of the goal in the 58th minute. Just before the Capannelli shot, Eatz tested Ekern but she came away with one of her four saves on the night.

Following the setback, ETSU moved to 2-6-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play, while Chattanooga improved to 3-7-3, 2-3-0.

ETSU completes its brief two-game road swing on Thursday night as the Bucs play at Wofford. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
