DAVIDSON, N.C. (Aug. 29, 2024) – The ETSU women's soccer team picked up a 1-1 game-shortened draw at Davidson on Thursday night from Alumni Soccer Stadium in Davidson, N.C.
Despite falling behind in the early going, the Buccaneers battled back to pull even at 1-1 in the 17th minute. Following a diving save by
Ashton Blair, the Buccaneer keeper punted the ball deep and Davidson keeper Emily Smith was given a yellow card for picking up the ball outside the box. On the free kick from the center spot of the 18-yard box,
Grace Eatz hit a lower liner that deflected off Smith right to
Ruby Teixeira for the game-tying goal.
Both teams had one shot on target for the remainder of the half and went into the break tied at 1-1. In the 33rd minute,
Jada Cooper tested Smith, while Blair made her third save of the frame on a shot by Sophia Whiddon in the 42nd minute.
In the second half, the teams combined for six shots with none of them coming on target. The Bucs had four shots to Davidson's two attempts.
Then, in the 72nd minute, a power outage hit the city of Davidson and its entire campus. After playing for several minutes, the game was called in the 80th minute with the score knotted at, 1-1.
Both teams registered eight shots on the night, while ETSU took three corner kicks to Davidson's two.
With the draw, ETSU moved to 1-3-1, while Davidson – playing its third straight Southern Conference team – now sits at 1-1-1.
The Bucs gear up for the second leg of their three-game road swing on Sunday when ETSU takes on Kennesaw State at 1 p.m.
