JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 10, 2024) – The ETSU football team held its first scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday afternoon at Bank of Tennessee Field at William B. Greene Stadium.
In a matchup against the offense against the defense, both sides of the ball had some highlights on the day. Five quarterbacks took snaps on Saturday and combined to go 27-for-41 for 236 yards.
The Buccaneer defense picked up a safety courtesy of
Jaylen George and added three interceptions from
Jayvon Henderson,
Dre Delinois and
Andrew Hand. Hand's interception was returned for a touchdown.
Charlotte transfer and Bristol, Tennessee native
Steven Johnson went 4-for-4 passing for 58 yards. Freshman
Reece Fountain also had a stellar day under center for the Blue & Gold going 6-for-7 for 45 yards through the air.
The Buccaneer ground game averaged 5.4 yards per carry on 28 attempts. The big run of the day came from senior
Bryson Irby as he ripped off an 85-yard run for a touchdown.
Adrian Johnson also had a rushing touchdown from a yard out.
Thirteen different players caught at least one pass during Saturday's scrimmage.
Javon Richardson led all receivers with 86 yards on seven receptions. Richardson's longest reception was for 38 yards from Johnson.
Defensively, Gardner-Webb transfer
Ryan Barrett led the defense with seven stops on the day. ETSU's defense also had four sacks and added seven more tackles for loss.
