Last Time Out – ETSU finished out its home schedule with a
6-2 win over UNC Asheville on Wednesday from Thomas Stadium. With the victory over the Bulldogs, the Bucs improve to 31-15 overall and adds to the program record for the most wins in a season at Thomas Stadium (24).
SoCon Streak & Stretch Run – The Bucs enter this weekend's series with a seven-game winning streak in SoCon games. ETSU, which won the series finale at Samford and swept both The Citadel and VMI during this stretch, currently sits third in the SoCon standings (12-6) with three games left. The last time the Bucs won seven conference games in a row was in 2013 when they were members of the Atlantic Sun. If ETSU can finish third or higher, it'll mark its highest conference finish since 2010 when it finished third in the A-Sun. Additionally, the last time ETSU placed third or higher in the SoCon was in 1992.
Last 10 for the Bucs – The Bucs are playing some of their best baseball of the season recently. ETSU is 8-2 in its last 10 games with the only two losses coming on the road at Appalachian State and at No. 15 South Carolina. The Bucs are outscoring opponents 91-46 during this streak and if the two losses are taken out, the score differential is 78-19 in favor of ETSU.
Kudos for Cam – Earlier this week, D1Baseball.com unveiled its top five first basemen in the country and ETSU's
Cameron Sisneros came in at No. 5 on the list. Sisneros leads ETSU in slugging percentage (.737), RBI (67), doubles (14), home runs (17) and total bases (129). The Littleton, Colorado native needs to drive in just three more runs to reach 70 on the season. Should he reach that mark, it'll be the most RBI for a Buc since 2010 when Paul Hoilman drove in a program-record 84 runs. Furthermore, he'll be just the third Buc over the last 30 seasons to drive in 70 runs in a season joining Hoilman in 2010 and Caleb Moore in 2005 when he knocked in 73.
Seven = Success for ETSU – When ETSU allows seven runs or fewer this season the Bucs are 28-1. ETSU's only loss in that circumstance came on March 8 vs. James Madison, 6-5. Additionally, when the Bucs hold opposing lineups to five runs or fewer, they are 23-0.
About Wofford – Wofford has the same overall record as ETSU (31-15) entering this weekend's series. The Terriers, who are 8-6 in SoCon play in 2024, have gone 20-4 at home this spring. As a team, Wofford ranks among the nation's top teams in multiple offensive categories including batting average (3
rd - .340), hits (4
th – 541), on-base percentage (2
nd - .450), runs scored (2
nd – 481), scoring (2
nd – 10.5), stolen bases (7
th – 127) and triples (28). A couple players to watch for Wofford this weekend are Brice Martinez and Marshall Toole. Martinez paces all SoCon players with 73 hits in 2024, while Toole is third in all of Division I baseball with 36 stolen bases this season.
Series History vs. the Terriers – The all-time series between ETSU and Wofford has been very competitive over the years. The Terriers hold the slight edge against the Bucs with a 32-31 record. ETSU will be looking for its first series win against Wofford since 2015. Furthermore, if ETSU wins at least two of the three games this weekend it'll mark the team's first series win on Wofford's home field since 2004.
