GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 7, 2024) – The ETSU softball team begins postseason play on Wednesday morning when the eighth-seeded Buccaneers face the fifth-seeded Wofford Terriers in a Southern Conference Tournament single-elimination game. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. at UNCG Softball Stadium.

ABOUT THE BUCS
- ETSU dropped all three games at Furman last weekend and finished the regular season at 11-38 overall and 5-16 in league play
- Three Bucs earned all-SoCon honors on Tuesday with third baseman Cameron Young and outfielder Brylee Mesusan earning first team accolades, and Sara Muir landed a spot on the second team as a designated player/pitcher
- Young started in 41 games for the Blue & Gold where she led the team in batting average (.394) and doubles (16), while also totaling 50 hits, 19 runs and 22 RBI
- Young, who broke the all-time program record for doubles earlier this season at Mercer, is currently tied for the top single season batting average in Buccaneer history … Katie Wolff hit .394 (56-142) in 2014
- Mesusan has been a key component to the Buccaneer roster in her first year in the Blue & Gold … Mesusan leads the team in hits (53), runs (34) and stolen bases (24) … Mesusan needs four more stolen base to tie the all-time single season record, set by Danielle Spetar (28) in 2005
- Despite missing 18 games with an injury, Muir has still produced at the plate and in the circle this season for the Bucs … In 25 games played (24 starts), Muir hit .404 (23-57) with two doubles, one triple, six RBI, 13 runs and 17 RBI … Muir leads the team in home runs, slugging percentage (.789) and on-base percentage (.493) … In the circle, Muir tied for the team lead in wins (4) as she went 4-8 with a 4.47 ERA (43 ER/67.1 IP) in 15 appearances (13 starts)
- The Bucs won two SoCon Tournament games a year ago, matching their most since winning a pair in 2019 … In 2018, ETSU won three games to reach the SoCon Championship for the second straight year … The Bucs fell to host UNCG in the 2018 title game … In 2017, ETSU won four straight games to secure its first-ever SoCon Tournament title
ABOUT WOFFORD
- Wofford, in its inaugural season, went 22-22 overall and 11-10 in SoCon play during the regular season
- The Terriers took two of three from reigning SoCon champion UNCG last weekend in Spartanburg
- At the plate, Wofford is led by Havalynn Abernathy as she leads the team with a .284 batting average
- Abbi Campbell leads the Terriers with 27 hits and 19 runs scored, while Hope Ingle and Kaytlin Greenwood each have belted two home runs on the season
- In the circle, first team all-SoCon selection Margaret Axelson is 8-5 with a 2.14 ERA (32 ER/104.2 IP) in 24 appearances (16 starts) … Axelson has three shutouts and six complete games
SERIES HISTORY
- Wofford took two of the three games in the regular season on April 27-28 in Johnson City
- The Terriers swept a doubleheader on Saturday, April 27 with a 1-0 win in game one and a 6-0 eight-inning win in game two
- The Bucs won the series finale 3-2 thanks to scoring three fifth inning runs, while Kendall Thackston tossed five scoreless innings of one-hit ball in relief … Thackston did walk five Terrier hitters and struck out one
