Baseball hosts UNC Asheville on Senior Day Wednesday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 7, 2024) – The ETSU baseball team will wrap up its home schedule on Wednesday when it welcomes UNC Asheville to Johnson City. Prior to Wednesday's game, the Bucs will honor their senior class. First pitch between the Bucs and Bulldogs is set for 5 p.m. from Thomas Stadium.

Probable Pitching Matchup
LHP Bryce Fisher (AVL) vs. RHP Nathan Hickman (ETSU) – Wednesday @ 5 p.m. | Live Stats

Last Time Out – ETSU completed a three-game sweep of VMI on Sunday with wins by scores of 11-1 and 9-0 in a doubleheader. The pair of victories over the Keydets move ETSU's overall record to 30-15 overall and 12-6 in SoCon play.

Terrific Season at The Thom – The Bucs have won their last eight games at Thomas Stadium and now have a home record of 23-5. The 23 victories are a new record for the Bucs at Thomas Stadium in a single season. ETSU moved into The Thom for the 2012 season.

Stellar Starts for the Bucs – ETSU got three stellar outings from their three starting pitchers over the weekend against VMI. The trio of Carter Fink, Jace Hyde and Michael Harpster combined to throw 18 innings and allowed just one earned run to go with 20 strikeouts. These three starts helped ETSU continue its dominance in games where it allows five runs or fewer this season. With those three efforts, the Bucs are now 22-0 when holding their opponents to five runs or fewer in 2024.

Bucs in the Top 10 in Batting Average – Now into May, the Bucs continue to have one of the top team batting averages in the nation (.321). ETSU's average is the eighth highest in Division I baseball in 2024. Furthermore, the Bucs have four players that rank among the top 10 in the SoCon in batting average in Nick Ianantone (4th - .387), Cody Miller (7th - .373), Noah Gent (8th - .370) and Cameron Sisneros (10th - .363).

Rare RBI Number – On top of his .363 batting average, Sisneros also leads the Bucs with 64 RBI this season. His 64 RBI rank 15th nationally. Sisneros is the first Buc to drive in 60 or more runs in a season since 2010 when Paul Hoilman drove in a program record 84 runs.

About UNC Asheville – The Bulldogs will come to Johnson City on Wednesday with a 20-23 record this season. Asheville swept a series vs. Western Kentucky over the weekend by scores of 3-2 and 2-1. Just three of Asheville's 20 wins this season have come away from home. A player to watch for the Bulldogs on Wednesday is Robbie Burnett. Burnett, who was the Preseason Big South Player of the Year to kick off 2024, leads the Bulldogs in slugging percentage (.655), runs scored (51), RBI (40), home runs (16), total bases (112), and walks (32).

Series History vs. Asheville – ETSU is 42-27 all-time against UNC Asheville. The Bucs have been especially good lately against the Bulldogs winning 11 of the last 12 matchups between these two programs, including a 5-2 win earlier this season in Asheville.
