DALLAS, Texas (April 25, 2024) – ETSU baseball player
Owen Kovacs was recently named to the Midseason Watch List for the 19
th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year award.
Kovacs, who is in his fifth season with the Bucs, was one of 59 players to be named to this list. Kovacs has had a career year for ETSU so far in 2024 posting a 2-0 record with a 3.12 ERA and six saves. His six saves are the sixth-most in the nation this season, while his .242 batting average against leads all Buccaneer pitchers in 2024.
Kovacs is one of two SoCon pitchers to be named to this list with Mercer's Bryant Olson being the other. Furthermore, Kovacs is the first ETSU pitcher to be named to a NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list since fellow Buc
Andrew Ronne was named to the preseason list entering the 2023 season.
The NCBWA will announce the finalists on Wednesday, June 5 with the winner being named on Friday, June 14 at the 2024 College World Series.
Kovacs and the rest of the Bucs will return to action with a home series against The Citadel this weekend. The series between the Bucs and Bulldogs is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday from Thomas Stadium.
