Probable Pitching Matchup
RHP Walker Trusley (ETSU) vs. RHP Trey Tujetsch (App State)– Tuesday @ 6 p.m. | Live Stats | ESPN+
Last Time Out – The Bucs clinched a series win on the road at Purdue on Sunday with a 12-2 win in seven innings. Sunday's victory boosts ETSU's overall record to 24-13 on the 2024 campaign.
Sisneros in Rare Company – Entering play this week,
Cameron Sisneros is among rare company in hitters in Division I baseball. Sisneros is one of just four players in the country to not only have more walks than strikeouts (34 to 10) but also have more home runs than strikeouts (14 to 10). On top of those numbers, Sisneros needs to drive in just three more runs to match his RBI output from all last season (59). With four more RBI, Sisneros will be the first Buc to drive in 60 or more runs in a season since Trey York knocked in 62 runs in 2016.
Gent with another great week – Perhaps the hottest hitter in ETSU's lineup lately has been
Noah Gent. In four games last week, Gent hit .600 (9-for-15) with five RBI and four runs scored. Gent, who finished a home run shy of the cycle in Friday's win at Purdue, leads the Bucs in hitting this month with a batting average of .479 with five doubles, two triples, three home runs and 19 RBI. Entering Tuesday's game in Boone, Gent is riding a 14-game hitting streak and has driven in at least one run in 12 of his last 13 games.
Five is the magic number – A number to keep in mind for the Bucs on Tuesday is five. When the Buccaneer pitching staff allows five runs or fewer, ETSU holds a 17-0 record this spring. When opposing lineups score more than five runs, however, the Bucs are 6-13.
Early Production for ETSU – ETSU has been a pretty consistent offensive team this season with a team batting average of .324. The .324 average is seventh in Division I baseball trailing only Wofford (.347), Austin Peay (.345), Virginia (.342), Tennessee (.330), Florida State (.328) and Northern Kentucky (.326). The Buccaneer offense has been especially good early in games. ETSU has outscored opponents 65-30 in the first inning this season. The 65 first-inning runs account for 21.1 percent of the team's 308 runs scored this season.
About App State – Appalachian State enters Tuesday's matchup with the Bucs with a 22-14-1 overall record and an 8-9-1 mark in Sun Belt play. The Mountaineers went 2-1-1 last week in games against Western Carolina and Arkansas State. The strength of App State's team is its offense as it is tied for 11
thnationally averaging 9.3 runs per game. The Mountaineers also hit for power as they have slugged 67 home runs in 37 games. Banks Tolley (17 home runs), CJ Boyd (14 home runs) and Austin St. Laurent (10 home runs) lead the way for App State in terms of home runs.
Series Rewind vs. the Mountaineers – Tuesday's game in Boone will be the 143
rd all-time meeting between the Bucs and Mountaineers, which is the most games ETSU has played against any one opponent. App State holds the historic edge with an all-time record of 81-60-1 against ETSU with one of those victories coming earlier this season in
Johnson City, 9-6. Since 2001, however, ETSU is 23-17 against App State.
